Product Description
Coconut husk is not a friendly feed material. It arrives in tangled heaps, it wraps around anything that spins, and it holds sand and grit from the yard. The husk itself is fibrous, springy, and full of moisture. A hammer mill will smear it. A jaw crusher will choke on it.
A swing arm single shaft shredder handles it differently. The rotor turns slowly, the knives shear instead of beat, and a hydraulic ram keeps pushing material into the rotor instead of waiting for gravity to do the job. That is the machine on this page: a single shaft shredder built for coconut shell, coir, fibre, palm husk and the rest of the awkward biomass stream.
Where it fits in a plant: usually first. Shredding is the size reduction step before anything else happens to the husk. Feed the shredded fraction to a crusher for finer size, to a press for board making, or to a kiln for charcoal. The machine is sold both ways, on its own or as the head of a line, and it is set up so a crusher can be added downstream later.
What it can be fed, besides coconut:
coconut shell, coconut husk, coir and fibre
palm husk, bark, banana tree
branches, leaves, straw, corn on the cob
garden waste and general green waste
and, the same rotor handles plastic containers, barrels, films, tubes and paper
That last point matters if you run a mixed waste yard. One machine, one set of knives, several material streams. The published figure for the coconut husk duty on this machine family is 800 kg/h. Treat that as an indicative upper number rather than a guarantee. Husk moisture, fibre length and how much sand rode in with the load all move the real number, and we will size the machine against your actual material rather than against a headline. Related shredding and recycling scopes on our site: plastic recycling line solution and washing and recycling production line.
Follow the material through the machine and the design decisions start to make sense.
A big hopper with a wide caliber, sized so that whole coconut shells and bundles of husk go in without being cut down first. Feeding a shredder by hand is the slowest job on the yard, and a narrow throat is what makes it slower. The opening on this machine is deliberately generous.
A hydraulic ram drives material into the rotor. On light, springy material this is the difference between a machine that shreds and a machine that sits there while the rotor spins in air. Husk is light. It does not fall into the cutting zone by itself. The ram pushes it. This is also why the machine accelerates through a light material load instead of batching it.
The rotor carries the rotating knives against a row of fixed knives in the frame. The cutting happens in the gap between the two, as shear. Rotating knives are mounted so each knife presents four cutting edges; when an edge dulls, the knife is rotated 90 degrees and a fresh edge goes to work, four times per knife before it needs regrinding. Fixed knives have two edges each, renewed by rotating 180 degrees. On the bigger models this adds up. 144 rotating knives at four edges each is a lot of cutting life between blade changes, and blade changes are the main reason shredders stop on a busy yard.
The frame is a combined structure built from extra-thick plates, precisely machined so the rotor sits true. The power slewing axis runs as a large-angle hexagon prism. A hexagonal shaft transmits torque with a positive drive rather than relying on friction or a key that eventually works loose, and it takes the shock of a hard lump hitting the rotor. Bearing housings are heavy and located in the frame, not bolted onto a plate that flexes.
An independent drive system runs the rotor. PLC control brings automatic overload protection and an auto-reverse switch. Overload protection matters most with coconut: shell pieces, stones, and the occasional piece of tramp metal all reach the rotor sooner or later. When the torque spikes, the control system reverses the rotor, backs the material off, and resumes. The alternative is a sheared pin or a stalled motor and a yard full of husk waiting.
Screen perforation is adjustable, so the output fraction is set by the screen you fit rather than by the machine you bought. Coarser screen for a first pass before a crusher, finer for material going straight to a press. Screen changes to suit the market you are selling into.
Low speed operation means quiet operation. Slow rotor, high torque, less drumming. On a site near housing, or inside a building, that is worth something.
Four models in the CX B series. This is the only published parameter set for this machine, so the table below is the whole of it.
| Model | Motor power (kW) | Hydraulic power (kW) | Rotating diameter (mm) | Fixed knife | Rotating knife |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1200B48 | 75 | 5.5 | 480 | 3 PCS | 70 PCS |
| 1500B48 | 90 | 5.5 | 480 | 3 PCS | 102 PCS |
| 1800B48 | 55 + 55 | 5.5 | 480 | 3 PCS | 132 PCS |
| 2000B48 | 75 + 75 | 5.5 + 480 | 480 | 3 PCS | 144 PCS |
One figure needs a word of explanation. The hydraulic power cell of CX2000B48 is published as 5.5 + 480, which does not sit alongside the 5.5 kW stated for the other three models and looks like an error in the published table. We quote it exactly as published rather than replacing it with a number that looks tidier. That cell is confirmed on the order confirmation before the machine is built.
How to read the range:
Rotor diameter is the same across all four models, 480 mm. The machines get longer, not wider, as the model number climbs. Wider rotor means more torque demand, so the design keeps diameter fixed and adds rotor length and drive power.
Motor power steps from 75 kW to 90 kW to twin 55 kW drives to twin 75 kW drives. The dual motor arrangements on CX1800B48 and CX2000B48 split the drive across two motors, which keeps individual motor size and starting load manageable on a large rotor.
Knife count tells you the cutting frequency. 70 rotating knives on the smallest model up to 144 on the largest, with 3 fixed knives throughout. More knives on a longer rotor, so cuts per revolution stay proportionate to the working length.
Longer rotor means more throughput per hour and more machine to feed. If you are running one loader and one operator, the smallest model may already outrun your yard.
Throughput for coconut husk is published at 800 kg/h for this machine family, material dependent. Chamber size, rotor speed, weight and overall dimensions are not published figures, so we do not state them here. Send your material specification and we will confirm the model and its dimensions in writing.
For the size reduction chain either side of the shredder: plastic pelletizing line, SMF series grinding machine, plastic agglomerator, two stage recycling machine, auxiliary machines.
Shredding is step one. The value is in what the shredded husk becomes, and buyers come to this machine already knowing which product they are chasing.
Building boards. Shredded husk is pressed into solid building boards that replace traditional wooden or plywood boards. The board is made of 100% fibrous husk, and it comes out strong as well as environmentally sound. This is the biggest single use of shredded husk in the construction trade.
Car floorboards and particle boards. Coconut boards also go into car floorboards and particle board production, where the material's strength and resistance to moisture are the selling points.
Soil conditioning. Shredded husk mixed into soil around plants keeps the soil moist. Simple, low cost, and a steady market anywhere with a nursery industry.
Coconut activated charcoal. With further processing, shredded husk becomes coconut activated charcoal. That product improves soil quality, raises soil CO2 content, adsorbs harmful metals, and increases microbial activity in soil.
Consumer goods. Pillows, mattresses, carpets, doormats, cleaning brushes, flower pots, automotive trunk liners, bed liners, floorboards and purses. Coir fibre is an old material with new markets, and the consumer end of the chain buys shredded and graded fibre by the tonne.
The common thread across every one of those products is the same. Shredding is the first step before coconut husks turn into anything new. Get that step wrong, with the fibre smeared rather than cut, and every later process pays for it.
Lines that often run near this machine: board and sheet extrusion line, extruder, pipe extrusion line, HDPE pipe production line 16-1600 mm, PP PE film recycling washing line, PET bottle crushing washing line, washing line machines.
The shredders are built to order, and the published feature list says so directly: they can be adjusted for customer-specific requirements regarding throughput volume, the material to be processed, and other factors. Here is what that means in practice, and where we will tell you no.
Screen perforation. This is the first thing to specify. It sets the output fraction. Coarse for a first pass, fine for material going straight into a press or a pelletiser.
Model and drive configuration. Four published models, from 75 kW single drive to 75 + 75 kW twin drive. Choice follows your material and your target hourly rate, not the other way round.
Hopper and feeding arrangement. Where the machine sits and how material reaches it decide the hopper build. Loader fed, conveyor fed or hand fed are three different layouts.
Cutting configuration. Knife count and knife geometry follow the material. Coconut shell is abrasive and brittle; coir is fibrous and springy. They do not want the same edge.
Downstream integration. The machine is set up to work with a crusher for the next stage of size reduction. If you already own the crusher, tell us its feed opening.
Controls and voltage. PLC control with overload protection and auto-reverse is standard. Voltage and frequency are set for your plant, and electrical component brands are confirmed on the order confirmation.
Spare knives. Rotating and fixed knives are consumables on any shredder. Work out how many sets you want with the machine.
Quote a guaranteed tonnage off a headline number. The published 800 kg/h is an indicative figure for coconut husk and it depends on your material. Anyone promising a flat tonnage before seeing the material is guessing.
Publish machine dimensions that have not been confirmed. Chamber size, weight, rotor speed and overall dimensions are settled with the configuration and confirmed in writing.
Fit a rotor to a duty it was not sized for. If the tonnage you want sits above what a 480 mm rotor can take with your material, the answer is a different machine, not a longer knife stack.
Sell a shredder as a fine grinder. If your output needs to be uniform fines, you need the crusher stage. Shredding gets you to a coarse fraction, and that is what it is for.
Quality on a shredder shows up in three places: whether the frame holds its alignment under load, whether the knives last, and whether the machine survives the material it eats.
Frame. Combined frame from extra-thick plates, precisely processed. The rotor sits in that frame. If the frame flexes, the knife gap opens, and a shredder with an open knife gap tears instead of cuts.
Rotor axis. Large-angle hexagon prism power slewing axis. Positive torque transmission instead of a keyed fit that loosens over a service life.
Knives. Four cutting edges per rotating knife, renewable by rotating 90 degrees. Two edges per fixed knife, renewable by rotating 180 degrees. Sharp knives cut fibre cleanly. Dull knives smear it, draw power, and push the load onto the gearbox.
Overload behaviour. Automatic overload protection with auto-reverse switch, under PLC control. This is the feature that keeps a coconut yard running when a stone comes in with the husk.
Materials QA. All ISO 9001 and CE claims on this page refer to Chenxing Machinery's quality management system and CE marking. We do not list certificates we do not hold, and we do not invent test reports. If your project needs specific certification documents, say so at the enquiry stage and we will send what we have.
Before shipment. Machines are assembled and run in the works before loading. Knives are checked, the hydraulic circuit is tested, and the control logic including auto-reverse is demonstrated.
After shipment. Instruction manual, operator guidance, and support when something on site is not doing what it should.
Documentation and drawings are collected under download. Project notes and application write-ups sit under news and application.
The published data for this machine does not include a fixed lead time, packing specification or warranty period, so we do not invent one here. Terms are set per order and written into the quotation.

Between the shredder and the baler or press that follows it, the usual companions are mixing unit, powder suction machine and crushing material suction machine.
A crusher beats material with hammers and needs it to be brittle and dry enough not to clog. This is a low speed shear shredder with a hydraulic ram, built for big and difficult solid material that ordinary crushers cannot handle. If your output must be fine and uniform, you shred first and crush after.
Start from your hourly target and your material condition. CX1200B48 at 75 kW is the entry model; CX2000B48 at 75 + 75 kW is the largest. The published 800 kg/h figure for coconut husk is indicative and material dependent, so send us a sample description or a photo and we will size it properly.
Coconut husk is light. It will not drop into the rotor by itself. The hydraulic ram pushes material into the cutting chamber, which is why the machine keeps shredding instead of spinning in air. It matters most on light material.
Each rotating knife has four cutting edges. When one dulls, rotate the knife 90 degrees and use the next edge. Fixed knives have two edges and are renewed by rotating 180 degrees. So each rotating knife gives four service cycles before regrinding, and each fixed knife two.
Yes. Screen perforation is adjustable to your requirements. That is the parameter that sets the output fraction.
Both. The same rotor takes coconut shell, husk, coir and fibre, plus branches, leaves, straw, corn on the cob, palm husk, bark, banana tree, garden waste, plastic containers, barrels, films, tubes and paper.
The PLC control system has automatic overload protection with an auto-reverse switch. Torque spikes, the rotor backs off, then resumes. On an outdoor yard with coconut arriving by the truckload, this is not a rare event.
No, but it can. Low speed operation is quiet operation, which is why the machine is often installed indoors or close to housing where a high speed machine would not be acceptable.
Yes. The CX B series shredder can work with a crusher machine for the next step of size reduction, and it can be ordered that way from the start. Other general questions are answered on the FAQ list.
Material type and condition, moisture level, any grit or sand content, target hourly rate, required output fraction, power supply available on site, and how the machine will be fed. With those, the model and the quotation can be fixed rather than estimated.
Send these and we can quote without a round of clarifying emails.
